AFVOA Newletters of Year 2010
Page 38 of 50 a Defence Officers’ Institute at Chennai. It appears that not all of us are familiar with what has been planned and therefore express voluble apprehensions. Chennai is the oldest military station of the country and yet we do not have an Officers’ Institute. It is time we got together and cutting across geographical locations we have to work together to create such an institution. In this edition we are giving an amendment list to the latest directory. It will help you keep upto date. The next meeting is on 26 Sep at the usual venue. We hope you will make it convenient to be there. A Special Request to Members: In case you are changing your address, phone / cell number or your e-mail ID please do let us know so that we can update your i f ti From the President’s Desk One of the veterans invited to participate in the Executive Committee Meeting made an interesting observation that only 20% of our members attend the Bi-monthly Meetings and approximately 25%, the Annual Picnic. This was evident during the AGM which was held on 19 July 2010. The Executive Committee is grateful to the members for the active participation in the proceedings of the AGM. There is an impression among a few members that AFVOA will be responsible for running the AOI, Chennai as and when it is established. The draft rules for the AOI prepared by AFVOA and handed over to the previous GOC, HQ ATNK&K Area, includes two veteran officers of the AFVOA as members, among several others, in the Executive Committee. We have also recommended that the President, AFVOA should be the Patron. The entire responsibility for the running of AOI will rest with the serving officers, as per the Draft Rules. Whether the proposals made in the Draft Rules are accepted will only be known when the AOI is established. Organising functions to celebrate occasions like Vijay Divas or in the memory of those who gave their lives for the Nation needs administrative support in a large measure, particularly when the functions are to be organised at the War Memorial. We cannot afford to dilute the highest required standards since the public will be watching the proceedings. HQ ATNK&K Area will be observing these occasions. Therefore, we requested the GOC, HQ ATNK&K Area to associate members of the AFVOA In these functions. The GOC, HQ ATNK&K Area has acceded to our request. As mentioned during the AGM, it has been decided to send hard copies of the News Letter to only those members who have not furnished their email id. Chennai has had an excellent weather this year. Its going to only get better in the coming days. We hope that more members will venture out on 26 Sep to maintain the fellowship and camaraderie existing among our members. We look forward to meeting you at the PGEP Complex. Amendment List No.1 to Hello Veterans 2009 Kindly incorporate at the appropriate place, in your copies.
