(b) Maj Gen & Mrs Aban Naidu were both affected by conjunctivitis (Madras Eye) and are on the path of recovery. (c) Col A Krishnaswami, VrC, VSM** who underwent a bye pass heart surgery at the Madras Medical Mission, Chennai. (d) Wg Cdr V Ramadurai has been admitted to Apollo Specialities Hospitals, Chennai for a surgery. 28. Useful Tips. The following tips may be useful:- (a) Keep away flies. Placing two-three tablets of camphor in a hot iron vessel keeps the flies away.(b) Remove oil stain. Rub the affected area with a piece of lime dipped in salt. Wash off with soap. (c) Drip-free candles. Store the candles in the freezer overnight before lighting them. You will not only have longer candle life but they will be drip-free too. (d) Silver jewellery shines again. Apply toothpaste to the blackened silver jewellery and rub well. Silver jewellery shines again. Another way is to soak the silver in water in which potatoes were boiled. Let stand for one hour. Wash with soap. And voila! Jewellery shines again. (e) Remove food smell from refrigerator. Place a fresh slice of bread (uncovered) in the refrigerator and it will absorb most of the unpleasant odour. (f) Relieve tired eyes. Soak teabags in chilled water and then place them over closed eyes. Tired eyes would be relieved. (g) Removing mud stains. To remove mud stains from clothes soak and wash them in water collected after boiling potatoes. (h) Deodorizing hands after cutting smelly foods. If your hands have fish odour, rub your hands with lemon rind. (j) Never ending supply of vinegar. Divide vinegar into two parts and keep separately in different bottles. Add boiled water and leave for a week. You will have twice the quantity original strength vinegar. (k) Sharpening the scissors. Cut a piece of sandpaper into strips. This sharpens the scissors. (l) Better way to clean milk glasses. Use cold water to rinse the glasses. Hot water makes milk "stick" to the glass and should not be used. (m) Get rid of fish smell. Fish smell tends to linger on the pots and pans long after the cooking. Brew some tea (for 10-15 mins) in the pot/pan in which fish has been cooked. Discard tea leaves and water. 29. Obituary.
