The meeting scheduled to commence at 1800 hrs on 01 May 2005 at the Palm Grove Ecological Park & Sports Complex, had to be rescheduled in view of the visit of Lt Gen VK Dua, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Managing Director, ECHS to the Station. In order to accommodate the General Officer’s talk to all the members of the AFVOA, the Tambola session had to be cancelled. The Secretary, Brig SP Balachandran, welcomed all the members with an apology for not having the Tambola session. 18. The first event in the meeting was the introduction of new members. Though a number of Officers had become members of the Association, only Capt DPG Benoh of the Assam Regt and his wife were present and introduced. 19. The Secretary, then requested all members to rise and observe a minute’s silence in memory of the following Officers, families who had passed away since our last meeting:- (a) Major S Veeraswami, 23 Mar 05 (b) Capt PS Sankaranarayanan 27 Mar 05 (c) Mrs. Ramani Thomas, w/o Brig PJ Thomas 04 Apr 05 (d) Lt Col UC Srivatsan, 25 Apr 05 The Secretary conveyed the condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the AFVOA. 20. The following announcements were made for the information of all members:- (a) Annual General Meeting (AGM). The AGM of the AFVOA has been scheduled at 1730 hrs on 26 Jun 2005 at the same venue. All members were requested to attend the same considering its importance. Copies of Notice to AGM, Audited Accounts and Amendments to Memorandum of Associaton and Bye Laws be collected from Brig NB Subramanian, the Treasurer. (b) Honours. A delegation headed by Maj Gen Aban Naidu, PVSM had gone over to the residence of Major (Dr) Thomas George, IAMS, a Nonagenarian and the oldest surviving Military Officer in Chennai to pay compliments and hand over a memento of the AFVOA and a copy of “Hello Veterans – 2004”. Mrs. Aban Naidu, Maj Gen & Mrs. C Govindaswamy, Maj Gen & Mrs R Karthikeyan, Brig SP Balachandran and Brig NB Subramanian were also present. (c) Visit of MD ECHS. Lt Gen VK Dua, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Managing Director, ECHS would be addressing the members on the ECHS He would be speaking on policy matters first and thereafter clarify our points. A list of important points which needed clarification has been handed over to the General Officer. (d) Subscriptions. All those members who have not paid their annual subscriptions may please do so at the earliest. (e) Tokens. From next meeting tokens will be issued to all members for dinner. We are compelled to introduce this system for two reasons. Firstly, the Accounts are under the purview of the audit by the CA wherein list of members attending the meetings have to be provided Secondly, it is to avoid embarrassment regarding the payment to the Catering Contractor for the actual number of members who had dined. 21. The Secretary then requested the President, Maj Gen C Govindaswamy to take the floor. The President welcomed the members and conveyed that he had called on the GOC, ATNK&K Area to apprise him of the difficulties being faced by the Ex-Servicemen at the Polyclinic.
