The months of March and April, are important in the Peninsula, as it heralds the New Year for the different people who populate this region. Hence, please accept greetings and good wishes on the occasion of the New Year - be it be Ugadi or Gudi Padva; or Vishu, or Bihu, or Tamil Varsha Pirappu which is known as the year of Partiba, as also for Baishaki which is celebrated in various parts of the country. We beseech the Lord Almighty for better times ahead to each and every member and their families, relatives and friends. 2. It may be mentioned that the object of starting this Newsletter was to serve as a record of events that takes place in the Association as well as to offer periodically a variety of news, features, analysis, and comments wedded to the classical values of truth, freedom and independence, justice, comprehensiveness, reliability and social responsibility. And in doing this, we are trying to be contemporary – without losing our sense of moral values and justice, so as keep up – not with the Jones – but with the changing times. Hence we constantly seek your views to ensure that we resonate to your vibrations, without compromising on our core values of truth and honesty. 3. And in this manner, one point to be highlighted is TIME. I am reminded of an incident that took place in my school way back in 1950. I was studying in a convent – a school where the distinguished alumni included Field Marshal KM Cariappa and General KS Thimmayya. We had a new Teacher for English – one Mr. Ludowick, who had just then joined the School from England. He was good not only in the subject but encouraged us to explore beyond the class, by having a quiz once a while! The famous picture ‘Gone with the Wind’ had been released and was showing in the town. As it was a lengthy picture lasting about four hours, there were only two shows a day. Instead of the normal three shows. My school normally got over at 3.15 p.m. daily. And the show timings were 3.30 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. One day, my
