Page 126 of 153 children for the show. Later one of the girls married AJ Texiera, who later retired as a brigadier. 9. Some of you may wonder what the last meeting had in common with the Gilbreths. In 1924, Frank Gilbreth was scheduled to address a convention. Unfortunately, he passed away before he could deliver his talk. But prior to his death, he had told his wife that if for some reason he was unable to deliver the address, she should do so, which is what she did! After all some of may remember Raj Kapoor’s famous film ‘Mere Nam Joker’ it is important that the show must go on..! 10. Just a couple of days before the last Meeting, the Secretary suffered a grievous bereavement, in that his dear father passed away. The President could not attend, as his mother was hospitalised. But nevertheless, the rest of the members rose to the occasion and the Meeting was conducted with clock-like precision. 11. The veterans along with their family members and guests assembled at around 5.00 p m. There were entertained to two rounds of Tambola. The games were conducted ably by Mrs. Chitra Rajan and Mrs. Lalitha Mohandas. Mrs. Sulochana Krishnaswami and Usha Subramanian. After Tambola, there was a welcome recess for half an hour to facilitate the veterans and their families to inter act, which is the essence of our AFVOA meetings. 12. Maj Gen R Karthikeyan Vice President formally welcomed the gathering on behalf of Gen Govindaswamy who had conveyed his apologies in not being able to attend the meeting. He was ably assisted by Brig N B Subramanian, the Treasurer, who took over the major load of attending to the financial aspects, dinner arrangements. The all important telephone directory distribution was handed over by him to his wife, Mrs. Vathsala Subramanian, who rendered valuable “staff ” support. Col A Krishnaswami, assumed the role of secretary-cum- Master of Ceremonies. 13. During his welcome address, Maj Gen Karthikeyan, the Vice President went down memory lane to the 24 th Aug meeting, which was a memorable one in all aspects – the Tenth anniversary of the Association wherein the second edition of “Hello Veterans” was released. He also mentioned that extra copies of the Telephone Directory could be obtained on payment of Rs. 100/. He also indicated that the next meeting would be the “Much awaited Picnic”. New Members. 14. Col Krishnaswami welcomed the new members, who joined the family of AFVOA.
