In his subsequent career, Gen Rangaswami had a memorable time commanding hospitals and working as a surgeon. Posted successively as ADMS of Central Command (1964), and then as ADMS with the Indian Military Advisor’s Staff in the UK. During the Bangladesh war, the General was posted as DDMS in the Med Dte, as also DDMS of II Corps. Retirement came in 1976 after a final posting as DDMS of Central Command. It was whilst on his earlier posting as ADMS at Central Command that history was created by a father and son due, when in Aug 1961 Lt Col V Rangaswami, Vr C & Bar and his son Lt R Loganathan (Mech Inf) made parachute jump from the same <Illegible> Packet flying over Agra, piloted by Sqn Ldr Rs Naidu (now Air Mshl RS Naidu, our member. Brig Loganathan, UYSM, is now retired and settled at Erode. Gen Rangaswami’s life in the Indian Army exemplifies a spirit of intense involvement and motivation, and will ever encourage succeeding generations. His email is rangaswami@stayam.net.in . %%%%%%%%%%%%% After the octogenarians were honoured, the formation of a committee comprising of Maj Gen Govindaswamy, Col Hariharan, VSM, Maj JL. Rattan, and Brig K Muthulaxmi was announced to formalise the existence of the 8-year-old Association by becoming registered body. The committee was to examine this aspect, and suggest the process that we should adopt for registering ourselves as a Society/Association/Trust, under the various existing Acts. Members who have any views regarding this are welcome to contact any one of the above. It was also announced that the membership database of the AFVOA was being computerised, and that members would shortly be intimated about their membership numbers. An announcement was made regarding the forthcoming get together of all short service commissioned officers of the Indian Army. This will be held in the month of June, and will be organised by the Area HQ. Brig Subramanyam and his team conducted an enjoyable game of Tombola. The unique feature of the game was that for the first time since inception, the Snowball melted. The lucky lady who bagged the prize of Rs 800.00 was Smt Ganga Subramanian. Thereafter dinner was announced. The arrangements made by the OTA and our caterers -Maharaj were simply superb, with the serene ambience of the golf course and the starlit sky adding to the appeal of the sumptuous menu.
