It was on the 27 th Oct 1947, that the Infantry of the Independent India set foot on the soil of J & K to stem the unlawful advance of soldiers of the newly created Pakistan, Afghans and other mercenaries. In Chennai, Maj Gen Aban Naidu, PVSM, AVSM, the senior most Infantry officer laid a wreath at the War memorial in the morning. Gen Naidu, was commissioned in 1942, and served in the Madras, 5 th Gorkha Rifles (FF) and the 11 Gorkha Rifles.
