Section 6 - Memoirs CV 2 No. 01 / 2021 Page 94 of 123 Minu Sundaram confirmed that the sambar was the item of the day . Initially it was given as an accompaniment to the dosa. But once the dosas finished, people were quite happy to have a cup of the sambar, which was priced separately. It was so delicious and tasty, that demand just outshone the supply. People were keen to know the recipe and how they could make it. I was modest enough to say, that only my wife knew the recipe and they were welcome to check with her later. It was quite late when I returned home. My little daughter had gone off to sleep, and my wife was anxiously waiting to learn of the reactions of the people to her sambar. She did not believe me, when I told her that it was the item of the Mela. Next day, Ms Minu Sundaram herself came over and thanked her for the fabulous dish – only then did she accept that I had told her the truth, and nothing but the truth. After all, even in the bible it is said that Jesus mentioned that a “prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family."
