One really requires patience and empathy to handle this sensitive portfolio of handling the ladies, without much authority. I was only an advisor so to say. I also felt that a lady alone can handle the situation amicably and interact with the first lady. That Momentous Day arrived when lady officers were inducted in the Armed Forces. By then I had superannuated. All stations including higher formations have lady officers as AFWAA Secretary to handle the affairs effectively and efficiently. May the AFWWA grow from strength to strength in the years to come. About the Author Group Captain L Mohandas was an Indian Air Force Meteorological Officer. He has three MSc degrees and a PG Degree in Management Studies (MMS) Served as a Faculty in Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore & as a HOD in the Prestigious College of Defence Management, Secunderabad. He was an Examiner of Osmania University for 5 years. After 33 Years of service & superannuation from Air Force, he served as a HOD in Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 13 years, heading IT in the Southern Region. He was a Met Officer at Pathankot during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 and was involved in Indo-Pak Summit at Shimla. At every rank from Pilot Officer to Group Captain, he was awarded commendation, for his meritorious & dedicated service by AOC.in.Cs/ CAS. He guided the Tsunami relief work, built community centres, primary health centres and fish auction centres and desalination plants with help of Industries at Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, while serving in CII. His hobby includes coaching poor children for the Board Exams. He is currently involved in giving guest lectures in various schools and colleges on discipline, future planning etc. He is also deeply involved in Social Service activities helping poor people, advising them, guiding their children how to apply for further studies, attend interviews and seek jobs.
