Section 7 – Panorama CV 2 No. 01 / 2021 Page 99 of 123 About the Author Goan humour-columnist writer Sheela Jaywant’s stories have found their way into anthologies like ‘Quilted – stories of middle-class India’, ‘Liftman and Other Stories’, ‘Indian Voices’, ‘Vanilla Desires’, ‘City of the Gods’, ‘She Writes’, ‘Shell Windows’, ‘Inside Outside’, ‘Carnival’, ‘Bomoicar’ and others. She has written for the Indian Quarterly, RHiME, Verve, Savvy, the Deccan Chronicle, the Navhind Times, the Times of India, the Indian Express, National Herald, Newstime, The Readers’ Digest, the Chicken Soup for the Indian Soul series, and others too many to type. She continues to write her column for Goa Today. Her Marathi-English translations include ‘Ward No. 5 K.E.M.’, ‘The Story of a Marwari’, ‘Opa, Goa, to Cleveland, USA’ and ‘Sangit Bari’. Recent prizes won include the DesiWritersLounge- 2017 for a short story and the Pallium India ‘Best in Print Media’ 2019 for an article on death/dying. She is on the jury of the Fundacao Oriente Short Story Competition. A trained mountaineer, she loves to read often and sometimes annoy a certain retired Wg Cdr. Though she likes to—and does-- spend long (productive) hours in the kitchen, she confesses that she’s otherwise housework challenged. She has worked in a hotel, a hospital, and presently works as the Administrator of a school complex; if she was able to achieve something on civvy street, it’s thanks to the skills she imbibed and learnt as a member of the Family IAF. She is interested in End-of-Life Care, and spends her time wondering how India’s going to tackle the garbage problem. She can be contacted at sheelajaywant@yahoo.co.in .
