He started this movement in 2009 and named it Inktober. His idea behind this month event was to improve the drawing skills and developing positive drawing habits. This annual event takes place in the month of October every year. Those who desire to take part in this event must create their own ink drawing and post it online through platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This challenge starts on 01 Oct and finishes on 31 Oct. Participating in this event is very simple. Create your own ink drawing and hashtag it as #inktober and post in online. I have been participating in Inktober challenge for the past two years and enjoyed the process. There is a prompt list to spark your creativity on a daily basis. This year’s list included ‘Fish’ ‘Blade’ ‘Teeth’ ‘Dizzy’ etc but it’s not mandatory to follow the list. I personally don’t follow the list and my preference is for more Indianised themes like our God and Goddess, IAF, Art forms like Kalamkari, Warli etc. Some of the points I adhere to and would recommend to the future budding artists of Inktober are: • Make deadline and prioritize • Make time for creativity. • Make a few extra sketches - The reason why I am mentioning this is because you may not find the time to make a drawing every day. The reason for this could be sickness, travel commitments, unexpected events taking your time etc. Like last year (2019) I was travelling for my school reunion and I was away from home for a week and since I was particular about not wanting to break the Inktober posts, I could fall back upon my reserve ink drawings which I had created in advance. On a personal front, Have I gained anything from participating in this challenge? Well one thing for sure. It has taught me to earmark at least one hour every day for my creative work. I plan my daily activities in such a way that I find time for some form of creative work like crochet, embroidery, knitting, tatting, sewing, painting, sketching etc. I
