Section 5 – War Diary CV 2 No. 02 / 2021 Page 98 of 332 About the Author Air Marshal MS Bawa, Minhi to his friends, had a remarkable career in the IAF having fought in both the 1965 and 1971 Wars. He commanded a MiG 21 Squadron besides premier establishments in the IAF. He took over command of Jaisalmer just prior to the 1971 War. His dynamic and courageous leadership led to the rout of the Pakistani Armoured Force at Longewala. He attended the Royal College of Defence Studies, London and later took over the diplomatic assignment as the Air Advisor at the High Commision of India, London. On his return he was promoted to Air Vice Marshal and took over as the Chief Instructor at DSSC Wellington. He then was promoted to Air Marshal and appointed SASO at HQ SWAC. On promotion to Commander in Chief he was appointed the Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Central Air Command. He is the recipient of the Presidential awards of PVSM, AVSM and VM. The Air Marshal retired in 1990 and lives in New Delhi.
