With this kind of ice-creams and waiters, it is no wonder I am disheartened by the disappearance of these favourite haunts! Note: This article was penned sometime in the late1970s byMrs Chitkala Govindaswamy who was an early active member of the AFVOA. Her penchant for ice-cream was well known to some of our older members of AFVOA. About the Author Mrs Chitkala Govindaswamy, wife of Major General Chander Govindaswamy pursued a multitude of hobbies and pastimes with aplomb. She was an avid Cloth doll maker and she excelled in other handicrafts as well. She has written a number of articles on crafts such as “Doll- Making, Art of Macram’e and Needlework tapestry” which were published in EME Year books. She was the Joint Founder President of the Chennai Scrabble Club which was formed in 1998. She had the distinction of sending the first ever competitors from India for the World Scrabble Championships at Las Vegas in 2001. She has organised games, Quizzes and the like during all the picnics from the very first one held in Dec 1995 of the AFVOA Chennai, in its earlier avatar as EXSOA. She was a keen photographer and thanks to her, there are records (both video & still) of all such meets. The Group photos of every meeting at Camp Gloria taken by her Digital Camera since 2001 are available with the General. She shares the Birthdate of 7 August with that of AFVOA. She passed away on 16 May 2020 short of her 80th birthday.
