Section 5 - Memoirs CV 2 No. 02 / 2020 Page 158 of 237 Looking back, now, Brigadier Nayudu had led a full and purposeful life, dedicated to the service of his country, his people and his family. As a father, our comfort, security and our achievements were his priority. A perfect gentleman, soft spoken, patient and wise he was always there to offer counsel and ready to help, never seeking acknowledgement nor praise or reward. He had won the 1939-45 Star, The Burma Star, The India ServiceMedal, TheWar Medal, Indian Independence Medal, G.S Medal 1947 J&K and The Oak Leaf. He rose to a senior rank at an early age but he remained humble and unassuming, carrying himself with dignity to the end. Loved by all, he passed away in California on 24th March 1998 at his son’s home with his family by his side. About the Author Dr Rekha Rajesh, proud daughter of Brig MA Nayudu studied at the Good Shepherd Convent, Chennai and MBBS at the Madras Medical College. She did her Post Graduation (1976) in the UK and Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners. Worked with the NHS, UK and also had privilege of working with the Ministry of Defence at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham. Married to a Thoracic Surgeon also from Madras Medical College whose father was in the AMC. Both have retired from clinical practice but he is currently Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinborough. Dr Rekha is proud to be the daughter and the daughter in law of Indian Army Officers. Recently the couple visited Rangoon in memory of their father, both of whom served there during WW2.
