Section 3 - Memoirs Newsletter No. 1 / 2020 P a g e 51 | 101 8 Lockdown?? We Will Emerge Victorious Maj S Manikavasagam Genre: Current Affairs hese are days of lock down and self-quarantine. I hear many people grumble about it. Why should I sit at home? I have no problem and why should I isolate myself. These are some outbursts we see in social media. I am afraid that the present generation, particularly in India, have not seen similar situations in the past; World War 2, Emergency (75-77) or the famine days in 40s and 60s. They do not understand that life has many lessons to teach and this is one such situation. If one refuses to learn, we will suffer and worse will make others suffer too. I am reminded of my two and half years’ service (Army) in LEH and beyond where I worked during summer months above 14,000 ft AMSL. This was during 1965-68. I was executing a high priority project in Ganglas, where we could work only during the months of June to September. I was a Captain, Project Officer with about 50+ Sappers, NCOs, JCOs and about 100 locals. During these 4 months we used to work for almost 12 hours a day. Summer days are pretty much long. During winter months we used to come to Leh, our parent unit and attend to other works. T
