AFVOA Newsletter May 2020
Section 3 - Memoirs Newsletter No. 1 / 2020 P a g e 48 | 101 Needless to say we had to manoeuvre during our morning ablutions and bath to escape the innumerable leaping frogs that would be practicing their jumps, have crossed snakes a plenty, and some of us had encountered a panther close to the old hangar, where we all used to play badminton. He stared at us all for a trice and disappeared in the surrounding thicket, leaving us wondering whether it was an illusion. Over and above was the daily dose of snails, leeches & varieties of fauna. We were amongst the lucky few to be allotted the permanent quarters and moved into a brand new flat- felt so thrilled about it and enjoyed to the core the rest of the stay too – long drives along the rail line to Tinsukia and Dibrugarh on one side and lush tea gardens on the other side of the road. Both of us visited places like Cherrapunji, Shillong, Itanagar, Imphal, Guwahati and Kohima War memorial and the interiors right up to Burma border. It was living in the lap of Nature literally and to this day I remember those good old days and narrate to our grand kids. I prayed then that we should have another posting in those parts and sure enough in the late 80s my husband was posted to Tezpur. “Bhagavan ne meri baadt sunli”.
